The Grow Northern Telos Range Expands – New Models 0006 & 0010 Land at One Stop!

When we tested the Grow Northern Telos 0008 we were mightily impressed! In fact, we were so impressed that we wrote an article about it all to itself. Click here to read it. It boasts a great light output spectrum, great grow-space coverage from its modest 240w power consumption, and the latest batches of LEDs have edged up the efficiency to a fantastic 2+ µmols total light output per watt. Put all that together with passive cooling (no fans to go wrong) and solid build quality for reliability and it is not hard to see why the Grow Northern Telos 0008s quickly began to fly off the shelves.

Following on from its success GN have launched 2 new models – the 0010 and the 0006. Click here to go to our product listing. Where the Telos 0008 has 8 x 30 watt modules the 0010 has 10 x 30 watt modules and the 0006 has, you guessed it, 6 x 30 watt modules. While the Telos 0008 uses 240 watts of electricity, the larger 0010 runs at 300 watts while the smaller 0006 consumes just 180 watts. The new larger and smaller models give you more choice, so that you can get the perfect grow light to match the size of your setup.

The GN Telos 0008 has 8 LED modules. 4 of them are purely full spectrum while the other 4 are half full spectrum and half pure red. This combination gives an excellent spectrum output. There’s lots of red which is great for flowering/fruiting, while the full spectrum LEDs provide plants with plenty of the rest of the light spectrum to keep them happy, healthy and growing vigorously. In particular, the blue content helps keep plants short and encourages production of essential oils, terpenes and flavonoids. The Telos 0006 and 0010 grow lights contain the same proportion of full spectrum LEDs and purely red LEDs. This means the light spectrum output of the 2 new models is exactly the same as for the Telos 0008:

We generally recommend a hanging height of around 500mm for the Telos 0008. The Telos 0010 can be hung a little higher (around 550-600mm). This extends the coverage somewhat. Where the 0008 covers an area of 0.75m x 0.75m up to 1m x 1m, the coverage of the Telos 0010 is between 1m x 1m and 1.2m x 1.2m.

Being a smaller unit, the Telos 0006 will be most at home in smaller grow areas of around 0.6m x 0.6m up to 0.75m x 0.75m and can be hung at a height as low as 400mm making it great for forming the basis of a little hobby grow.

The bigger sister – the Telos 0010 is a different beast. While it is probably most at home in a 1m x 1m tent, it would be possible to stretch that to a 1.2m x 1.2m – just about. However, for a really effective grow in that size area, it would be better to use 2 Telos 0008s. The coverage will be much better and 480 watts of quality LED lighting is far more appropriate for that size space.

Here are the light footprints of the GN Telos units. They are all at a height of 600mm, and over a 1.2m  x 1.2m space. Please note that 600mm is not the optimal height for these lights to be hung above the canopy. It is simply an arbitrary height that we chose for comparative purposes.

Please note that the scales indicated by the coloured contour bands are different for the Telos 0010 than the 0006 and the 0008 units. Unfortunately, this is an artifact of the software used to produce them. Just for clarity (bearing in mind that all 3 lights were hung at the same height of 600mm) the light intensity at the centre for each of  the units was measured as follows:

Telos 0006 – 365 µmols/m2/sec

Telos 0008 – 467 µmols/m2/sec

Telos 0010 – 570 µmols/m2/sec

The GN Telos 0008 is best hung at about 1000mm for cuttings and seedlings, at about 800mm for vegging plants, and at about 600mm for flowering or fruiting. The Telos 0006 could be used a little lower. The Telos 0010 could be used a little higher. However, remember that area coverage will go down the lower it is hung, and will go up the higher it is hung.

All three of the Telos units are among our fastest selling LED grow lights. We regularly have customers who have bought one coming back for more. With so many delighted owners and great test results, we know that you will be getting one of the very best grow lights and great value for money too with a GN Telos LED unit.
